| | Tips and FAQ's for buying Spoon RingsWhat is the history of the spoon ring?: Many say the spoon ring first appeared in England in the 1600’s. It is said that servants looking for wedding rings, but lacking the funds to afford them, would often steal the flatware from their masters and have them crafted into rings. What does a spoon ring mean or symbolize?: A spoon ring denotes love, responsibility, and commitment. It was often used as a wedding ring prior to the 20th century. Are spoon rings popular?: During the early 20th century, spoon rings lost popularity. During the 1960’s and 1970’s the spoon ring became quite fashionable. Its popularity has remained steady from the 1980’s to present day. It is often viewed as a symbol for “love” between husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, or families. Many families have established a tradition of gifting a spoon ring to females that marry into the family to show their traditional “love, responsibility, and commitment” to the family. How are spoon rings designed?: Modern day designs are not usually made from actual spoons, but instead crafted from spoon designs from earlier time periods. Are the spoon rings adjustable? Yes, they do go up or down 2 whole sizes. We only carry one style that is a “fixed” style and it’s code number is #SR-1866. If they’re adjustable, why do they have sizes? While you can adjust them, they come from the manufacturer in different sizes and we try to send you a ring closest to the size you need so you do not have to adjust too much. What if I don’t know the size I need? The sizes we sell the most of are 7 and 8. If the person you are ordering for is petite, go with the 6. Will they break? All styles that we carry have been battle tested. We have carried them in our stock for 2-5 years. If we ever experience a problem with a ring style, we pull it from our inventory until we can work with the manufacturer to correct the issue. We do suggest once you “size” your ring to fit, do not continue to manipulate the ring. Occasional adjustments are fine. Repeated unnecessary adjustments could weaken your ring. Are your spoon rings sterling silver? Absolutely! All of our spoon rings are sterling silver and marked either sterling, sterling silver or .925 for authenticity. I’m shopping for a teenage girl. What style is most popular with that age group? Our most popular group for the teenage sect is SR-2919 Double Bar Spoon Ring. I don’t really know which style to get, is there one that is more popular than others? Our most popular overall style is 8218 Traditional Sterling Silver Spoon Ring. It is by far the most traditional look. An alternative for something just a little bit different, but still traditional is the sister ring 8380 Flower Design Sterling Silver Spoon Ring Will my Spoon Ring tarnish? It’s important to remember that ALL sterling silver jewelry does tarnish over time. This does not mean it is “ruined”. Simply clean your spoon ring with a jewelry polishing cloth and it will return to its original shine. For a heavier cleaning, you can either use a sterling silver liquid cleaner or mix a little baking soda and water in a plastic bag, drop your ring in side and let it sit for a few minutes. Take it out and wipe it off with a clean smooth cloth. How do I store my Spoon Ring? Store your spoon ring (or any sterling silver piece) in an air tight container when you are not wearing it. Oxygen in the air is what causes sterling to tarnish. The oils in the body prevent it during wear. We send our jewelry out inside a small plastic jewelry Ziploc bag. They are great to use as your “air tight” container. Can you engrave an initial on my Ring? We do not engrave in house, it’s just not our specialty. “Most” jewelry stores in your area or trophy stores can engrave for a nominal fee. We advise checking with them before purchasing to make sure they will/can engrave your ring that you purchase. There’s so many styles to choose from. What if my recipient wants a style other than the one I choose? Call or email us---we’ll be happy to work with them/you on an exchange. We’re here to help. Are your spoon rings handmade? No, our spoon rings are designed by a world class jeweler using the best vintage designs of days gone by. They then take these designs and produce a mold. The mold is used to make our rings.
